Congratulations to the Sligo County team on their impressive win over Limerick at the weekend and we look forward to further excitement when we welcome Cork our next opponents.

Adult Football

There are no matches scheduled for the weekend and preparations for the latter stages of the leagues and upcoming Championships are in full progress.   A reminder that St Marys is entering a Junior B team in the Championship this year and we would encourage any players interested in getting involved to speak to Niall Murray on 087 2860239.

Our Minor footballers play St Johns in the 2nd round of the A Championship this Thursday. In the U16 Championship, our lads hit fine form and had a great win against St Maloise Gaels on a scoreline of 2-15 to 4-4.  There were brilliant performances throughout the team with the Hargadon twins showing well, and their younger brother Ryan giving a commanding exhibition of centre half back play.   This team is building confidence and will be a match for anyone in the Championship ahead.   Next up are Eastern Harps away in the 2nd round on Monday 21st July at 7pm.    The U14s are looking to build on their improved form, particularly since they were in the Feile, when they meet Enniscrone/Kilglass in the B League Shield final on this Friday, venue yet to be confirmed.   In another busy and entertaining week. the U12s had good league wins in Group A  by 24 scores to 11 and Group D by 19 scores to 9 against Drumcliffe Rosses Point in Oxfield but lost narrowly to St Michaels 13 to 14 in Group C at Kent Park.   Next for the U12’s is an away outing this Tuesday 22nd against St Maloise Gaels in Groups A and D.   Please keep up the great support for our teams, in particular the U14 final.

It has been football all the way for our younger age groups.   Our Under 8 team have been making great progress over the past few weeks and enjoyed playing their first of what we hope will be many games in Markievicz Park last Friday. We played Drumcliffe in the under 8 fixture and fielded three teams on the evening providing football for 36 boys and girls. At this stage of the season the under 8 team have played seven games which has brought them from Keash to Tourlestrane over the past few weeks. A big thank you to all the coaches Simon Buckley, Enda Brady, Seamus Cronin, Ken Draper, Mark Mullholland, Declan Flavin, Peter Mullan, David Keane , Aidan Mackey and Niall Murray. We would also like to thank all the parents who have travelled to the games supporting us and helping out at various times when the need arose.

Our Saturday Morning Coaching has been going from strength to strength with huge numbers of boys and girls attending each Saturday.  In particular it is really encouraging to see the large turnout at the U6 and U8 age groups who are really enjoying their introduction to Gaelic Games in a fun environment.   Over the past few weeks we have had visits from our county players both senior and minor to give tips to our up and coming stars.   A big thank you to Charlie Harrison and his team of coaches who ran a really fantastic Cul Camp in Kent Park last week, bringing great colour and vibrancy to our Club.   Over 120 children attended and thoroughly enjoyed the weeks coaching.   Per Charlie each child was a great example for St Marys and worked very hard on their skills during the Camp.

Ladies Section

The final event in the Gaelic4Girls program took place last Sunday when the girls travelled to take part in a Connaught Blitz in Ballyhaunis Centre of Excellence.   The program has now completed and well done to all participants, we hope you will enjoy playing Gaelic for a long time to come.    There were no matches during the week and training has recommenced at the different age groups in preparation for the upcoming Championships which commence in mid-August.
