Colaiste Mhuire Ballymote V St. Josephs
Charlestown
Colaiste
Mhuire Ballymote got off to a winning start to their Juvenile ‘D’ League
campaign with an impressive win over St Josephs Secondary School Charlestown on
Wednesday last. Despite the Game being played in wet conditions in Fr. O’Hara
Park, the Colaiste Mhuire team played some lovely fast football.
They got
off to a flying start with Eoin Higgins scoring a goal inside the first 5
minutes. With Ciaran Dorrian pulling the strings at centre forward, the stand
out feature of the first half was the point taking by the Colaiste Mhuire
forwards in particular, Barry Cafferky and Ciaran Hannon. Charlestown could
have got a goal after 20 minutes only for Colaiste Mhuire goalkeeper Donncha
Byrne made a brilliant save to keep the effort out. With Luke Hogge a rock at
centre back and Shaun O’Connor also on top at full back, Charlestown only
managed to score 2 points in the first half. A Barry Cafferky goal and 2
efforts from Dylan Martin and Aaron Lang meant the half time score was 4-10 to
0-2.
Charlestown
came out all guns blazing in the second half. They started off the scoring with
Paddy Coldrick, who was very impressive, kicking a couple off lovely points.
However Colaiste Mhuire got on top again with Kalum Byrne and Shane Langton
driving the team on from the half back line. Another Cafferky goal and some
great points by Dorrian, Lang and substitutes Eoin Killoran and Jake Flannery
meant the men from Ballymote finished the Game comfortably with the final score
5-18 to 0-5. Next up for Colaiste Mhuire is a Sligo derby at home to Enniscrone
on the 17th of October.
