St
Attractas v St Nathys
St
Attractas got off to a winning start in the 1st Year ‘B’ League last
Thursday in a dramatic game played in Ballaghdereen. They came back from a 17
Point deficit to win by a point in an extraordinary game.
The game
started at a frantic pace with both defences showing great skills to keep the
game scoreless for the opening 10 minutes. Nathys eventually opened the scoring
with a 13 yard free. Nathys started to dominate the first half and led 2-7 to
0-0 at the break. Attractas created a lot off goal chances but just couldn’t
convert due to wild shooting and excellent Goalkeeping from the Nathys number
1.
The second
half started in the same fashion. Nathys were the more clinical team and
increased the lead to 2-11 to 0-0 with 15 minutes left to play. Suddenly the
Tubbercurry based team woke up and the comeback started. Dara Feeley who came
on as a sub scored a point which was soon followed by a David Brennan goal.
Aaron Perry pointed from long range and it started to give Attractas believe.
Another long range point from the games outstanding player, David Towey made it
an 11 point game. Shane Touhy who also came on as a substitute scored the
second goal from close range and they suddenly had all the momentum. More goal
chances followed but Nathys keeper made more great saves. Then Nathys managed
to score a goal against the run off play.
Other teams
may have throw in the towel but Attractas went straight up the field and goaled
again, this time through the hard working midfielder Matthew Clavin. Then the
best goal off the game followed, a brilliant 20 yard effort from Oisin Murphy
hit the roof off the net. The brilliant Michael O’Dowd won the resulting kick
out and managed to score a deserved goal. It was a 2 point game all off a sudden
and time for one more attack. Sean Kerrigan played a captains role when he won
a ball in the half back line and went on a brilliant run. He was eventually
fouled and Murphy lobbed the free into the box and it was Aaron Perry who
jumped highest to fist the ball to the net to complete a brilliant comeback.
