This weekend sees the start of the AIB Connacht GAA Club Senior Football Championship with the meeting of Sligo Champions, Tubbercurry and Aughawillan from Leitrim. Both these clubs returned to the winner's enclosure in capturing their respective County Senior Club Titles. Tubbercurry overturned a fancied St. Mary's team in the Sligo final by winning 3-11 to 0-12 and winning their first title since 1991. The Leitrim County Final also saw the underdogs prevail with Aughawillan winning their first title since 1994 in defeating St. Mary's on a score line of 1-13 to 1-10.
We have to go back to 1991 for the last time Tubbercurry played played in the Connacht Club campaign, where they faced Hollymount from Mayo and were defeated 1-12 to 0-7. The last time Augahawillan competed in the Connacht Club championship, 1994, they reached the Connacht Club final, defeating Hollymount in the semi-final 1-8 to 0-9. They were beaten in that final by Tuam Stars 2-9 to 1-8.

AIB Connacht GAA Club Junior Hurling Championship

Carrick HC v Calry/St. Josephs

Ballinamore will host the champions of Leitrim and Sligo in the semi-final of the Connacht GAA Club Junior Hurling championship. Calry/St. Josephsare defending their crown as Provincial champions at this grade having won the competition for the past two years. St. Marys, Carrick HC represent Leitrim as County champions following their win over Gortletteragh, their first title since 2010, while Calry/St. Josephs defeated Western Gaels in the Sligo decider to make it four in a row of county titles.
