Centre
of Excellence lights officially switched on at Scarden
The fields around the new
GAA €3.2 m Centre of Excellence at Scarden, were brightly lit last Friday night
when a large turnout of Club Sligo members and patrons turned out for the big
switch on of the new floodlights.
Supporters turned up from an early stage to see the
excellent facilities and they were treated to hospitality in the Marquee before
the formalities preceded the switching on.
MC for the evening Austin O Callaghan opened
proceedings by introducing County Board Treasurer Peter Greene who provided all
in attendance with a Presentation on the development of the Centre of
Excellence and on the success of Club Sligo.
He stressed the ongoing need for patrons to support the
Club Sligo project and outlined the four levels of Membership for anyone
wishing to join the 600 Members already supporting the project.
Anyone wishing to avail of Membership should contact
the Co. Board Administrator Eamonn McMunn on 087 052 4574 or through the
website www.sligogaa.ie
He went on to outline the next Phase of the project
which will see the construction of the Dressing room and Office complex on the site,
with work expected to commence in a few weeks’ time.
County Chairman Joe Taaffe went on to welcome all those
in attendance and to thank all those who were instrumental in bringing the
project to its current state. In particular he mentioned the support received
from both Government though the Sports Capital Grant aid and Croke Park for
their assistance to date.
He appealed to all Clubs in the County to put their
shoulder to the wheel and support Club Sligo over the next few weeks as that
would be the only call on Clubs during 2015.
The formalities came to a close with the official
switching on duties being performed by John Prenty, Secretary of Connacht
Council GAA.
