Enniscrone/Kilglass secure third win

Ballymote 1-4 Enniscrone/Kilglass 1-15

Enniscrone/Kilglass made it three wins from three in the Kennedys Intermediate Championship with an 11-point win over Ballymote at Corran Park last Saturday evening.

The winners dominated for most of the hour, particularly in the second half, a period in which they kept Ballymote scoreless and scored eight points without reply.

The first half was a more evenly contested affair although Enniscrone/Kilglass controlled possession but lacked a killer-instinct up front.

Therefore, Ballymote kept in touch early on and Mark Irwin’s excellent goal midway through the half was a crucial score.

However, Enniscrone/Kilglass responded in clinical fashion when Shane Hargadon netted from the penalty spot in the next play, undoing all Ballymote’s good endeavour up to that point.

1-7 to 1-4 ahead at the break, with Shane Hargadon, Brian Coleman and Robert Jacob among the point scorers, Enniscrone/Kilglass pressed home their advantage after the interval.

Winning a huge amount of possession around the middle, the West Sligo side turned this into scores with the Coleman and Hargadon, who scored 0-4 and 1-3 respectively, the focal point of their attacking unit.

Mark Gordon was in good form from placed balls with three points, while substitute Kevin Carden also got in on the scoring act.

Ballymote struggled to gain any momentum and although they had a goal-bound shot saved midway through the half, their attack failed to function as Enniscrone/Kilglass closed out the game to win by an 11-point margin.
