The Seniors emerged from a tough encounter against Coolaney / Mullinabreena in he Belfry Senior Football Championship Quarter final in Markievicz Park on Sunday afternoon.  The game had near perfect conditions and both sides showed their desire and determination throughout with some strong running and tackling giving the large crowd plenty to cheer about.  Coolaney / Mullinabreena took full advantage of the breeze in the first half and ended the half leading by 2-7 to 1-5.  St Mary's came out in the second half and strived to keep their opposition penned in in their own half.  The midfield battle was key and the breaking ball was being edged by the Mary's lads, and they slowly overturned the half time deficit.  The use of the bench help Mary’s keep the scoreboard ticking over and some determined defending limited Coolaney /Mullinabreena to 2 points in the second half.  St Mary's won the match 2-15 to 2-9 and now progress to the semi final against Tourlestrane

The End of Season Party for the Saturday Morning Coaching took place on Saturday afternoon with over 120 Children between the ages of 4 to 12 demonstrating their football and dancing skills.  The afternoon started with coaching and finished with “Scruffy Duffy” bashing out the tunes.  A special mention to Enda Brady who borrowed a phrase from the Taoiseach when asked what was the plan, “We have a great team”. The team came through and all the Kids had a great afternoon.

The Club would like to express its sincere thanks to all the coaching team and would also like to encourage all the parents to consider coming “inside the Wire” no matter what level of knowledge of the game you will be welcomed and get great enjoyment out of the Club.

The Finals of the U9 and U11 City Board Leagues take place in Scarden center of excellence next weekend and it will be the culmination of a great initiative to get these age groups playing regular competitive football.  The St Mary's U9’s have played very well and battled some very strong competitive teams and demonstrated great skills and determination. The improvement in all these lads is noticeable and a credit to all their coaches especially Aidan Rooney who can “fix any issue in 20 minutes!”. The future of the club at underage is looking bright.

The Club is the heart of the community and open to all our neighbours throughout the year and you can be assured of a warm welcome and plenty of craic and even foreign Sports on the television! Please support the Club in all activities over the coming months.
