Sligo got their first win of the Lory Meagher Cup as they had 7 points to spare against 14 men Warwichshire. In very wet conditions for hurling it was Sligo who started very positive as they found back of net on 11 minutes as Keith Raymond 65 ended in the corner of the net as ball took a deflection on its way to the goal. Further points from Cormac Behan and Gerard O’Kelly Lynch extended the gap. John Bergin kept the visitors in the contention with a fine point but Sligo extended the gap once again when O’Kelly Lynch got his first of his two goals to put Sligo in control after 22 minute of play . But Warwickshire came right back at Sligo and scored 1-1 without reply Pauric Crehan on the mark but three Sligo points before the break from Ronan Cox and Raymond had Sligo in front at the break 2-10 – 1-5. Both sides cancelled each other out in the early stages of the second half and the game was put beyond doubt 15 minutes of the second half when O’Kelly Lynch went on a glorious run where he ran with ball for 70 metres taking on man after man before hitting the ball into the right corner of the net . It got worse for the visitors when full back Willie Allen was shown a straight red card to see his side reduced to 14 men. Sligo would only score three further points in the remaining 20 minutes as the visitors had purple patch where they outscored 7-3 in this period the visitors got their third goal of the match just before injury time when substitute with Keith Dwyer netting for Warwickshire. Raymond added his 12 point of the match before the end to ensure Sligo got their first win of the campaign.
