Minor
History was
made on Sunday afternoon after the Enniscrone/Kilglass-Easkey minor team
captured the Minor A Championship title courtesy of a 1-15 to 0-10 win over
Owenmore Gaels at Markievicz Park. It is 36 years since the title came back to
west Sligo and our lads put in a superb second half display to run out
eight-point winners. Level at half-time, 0-4 apiece, the team showed immense
improvement in the second half to seal the honours. In what was a first for
both clubs, this is a magnificent achievement so congratulations to the squad
and management. We extend our thanks to Declan Rouse and Lacken Wind Energy for
their sponsorship of team tops, and also to the Diamond Coast Hotel for post-match
refreshments.
The team and
squad is as follows: Shane Kilgannon, Niall Kilcullen, Eanna Moylan, Aaron
Hannon, Eoin Hallinan, Rory McHugh, Josh Ellis, Mikey Gordon, Dylan Sloyan,
Mark Caffrey, Chandler McGuinness, Andrew Kilcullen, Brandon Fitzgerald, Joe
McHugh, Ciaran O’Dowd. Subs: Adam Mullaney, Dara Rouse, Aaron Duffy, Eoghan
Bourke, Finn Nelson, Jonathan Queenan, Daniel Rolston. Management: Brendan
Murray, Cathal Mullaney, Dessie Sloyan, Vincent Cuffe. The next assignment for
the team is a Connacht quarter-final meeting with Castlebar Mitchels next
Friday evening at 7pm in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence in Ballyhaunis.
Surf and Turf
The annual
Surf and Turf run is back again for 2016 next Saturday, October 29th (bank
holiday weekend). This event, over five kilometres, is fast becoming a staple
of the autumnal calendar across the west Sligo and north Mayo areas and we look
forward to another fantastic day again this year filled with obstacles, bog and
plenty of fun! You can find the event on Facebook (Enniscrone Surf and Turf
Run) and Twitter (@surfturf2016). Entry is €20 for adults and €10 for U-16s,
with every competitor receiving a free beanie after the race. Registration
takes place on the morning of the event from 10.30am with the starting gun
sounded at 12 noon. We are looking expecting a big crowd and looking forward to
another great event!
U-21
The
Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey team play Calry/St Joseph’s next Sunday afternoon at
2pm in Hazelwood in round two of the A Championship.
