Six-point defeat for
Sligo
Galway 0-13 Sligo 0-7
Sligo
concluded their Connacht Minor League campaign in Tuam last Saturday
evening, where champions Galway sealed the title with a six-point win.
In the last
game for both sides prior to the start of the Connacht Minor Championship,
Sligo now turn their attention to a semi-final meeting with Leitrim in June.
As in their
loss to Mayo in the previous round, Sligo struggled in the opening period here and
Galway amassed a 0-8 to 0-1 lead by the half-time whistle. Sligo’s sole first
half score came from a Barry Gorman free after six minutes, but the home side
dominated proceedings to lead by seven points at the break.
The
situation improved for Sligo soon after half time with points from Niall Colsh
and Brian Cox, but a red card for Red Óg Murphy after 40 minutes halted David
Cummins’ side momentum.
From there
Sligo to their credit battled hard and added four further points through Colsh
(2), Conal Ryan and Barry Gorman, but Galway always looked in control and ran
out six-point winners.
It was
Sligo’s second loss of the campaign – they finished third in the standings with
three wins from their five games.
