The club’s 2017 Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp last week attracted a record 174 children to Oxfield. It was a terrific week of GAA activity and fun despite the occasional weather interruption. Sincere thanks to our local Cúl Camp coordinator and her team of club volunteersMary Power for steering the ship with calmness and composure all week. Particular thanks also go to Sligo GAA’s Benny Kenny and his vast team of coaches who guided (and entertained) the kids with distinction all week.

A blistering second-half display by our boys U16 footballers saw them overpower a gallant St John's team last Monday evening's in Scarden to lift the Division 3 league title for 2017. The team overturned a five-point half-time deficit and ran out winners by 7-19 to 3-9 with midfielder Eoghan Smith contributing 2-10. The panel of players: Josh Henry, Mícheál Broaders, Ian O'Brien, Ciarán O'Reilly, Des Gillen, Lee Cummins, Eoghan Smith 2-10, Ben Kelly, Ciarán Smith, Cian Oates, Niall McDermott, Padraig McGowan (Joint Capt) 1-0, Jack O'Connor (Joint Capt). The junior men’s footballers have finished top of Division 4 and have qualified for the league final following a 1-11 to 0-10 win at home to Castleconnor last Saturday. The victory completes a 100 percent record in the league with nine wins from nine matches. We are still awaiting confirmation of our league final opponents. The team will also compete in the Junior ‘B’ Championship, which starts next month.

Our senior men’s footballers host Curry next Sunday afternoon (30th) at Oxfield in their final Division 1 match of the season. Throw-in is at 1pm. A draw or better will ensure our top flight status for next season.

Our ladies intermediate footballers have a vital home championship match the same day against Calry/St Joseph’s. They need a win to qualify for the county semi-finals. Throw-in at Oxfield on Sunday is at 10am.

Our minor ladies footballers made a winning start to the group stages of their ‘A’ championship campaign last Wednesday with a 4-8 to 1-10 win away to Eoghan Rua. Four days later they played Eastern Haps at Oxfield and put up a spirited display before eventually going down on a final scoreline of 2-12 to 3-5. The games come thick and fast tor the minors. They host Tourlestrane in their next group match at Oxfield this Wednesday evening at 7pm.

Our promising girls U12 team had an impressive win last Friday evening in the championship against Tourlestrane. The boys U14 footballers began their ‘A’ championship campaign the same evening with a comprehensive victory over St Farnan’s/St Pat’s at Oxfield.

Our boys U12 football teams play Coolera/Strandhill this Tuesday evening.

The Benbulben Gaels minor hurlers host Tourlestrane at Oxfield in the U18 championship on Thursday evening at 7pm while the U14 hurlers travel to play Tubbecurry/Cloonacool, also in the championship, the same evening.
