Our
U12 girls had a great win last Friday evening when they defeated St Johns by 4
points in the final game of the B championship It was a must win game and now
our girls can look forward to the play offs. Well done to everyone as we had to
dig deep to get the victory and was even more satisfying as we had lost to St
Johns by one point previously. Our U14
girls arranged a challenge against Eoghan Rua in continuance of their
Championship preparations. The match
turned out to be very competitive and we now await this week’s first round tie
against Calry. Our U16 girls open their
Championship against the same opposition on Thursday.
In
Bord na NOg our U12 boys Division 1 and Division 2 teams were in league
semi-final action. The Division 1 side
played an under strength Tubbercurry Cloonacool team, and inevitably after an
even 1st quarter, our more experienced team pulled away thereafter to win 33 -
7. Special mention to U10s Odhran Buckley and Roghan O Neill who gave very
assured defensive performances. All
roads now lead to Markievicz Park on Wednesday 23rd at 6 30 where we play a
talented Shamrock Gaels side in the County Final.
The U12 Division 3 side bowed out of their semi-final after an absorbing game against
Eastern Harps. In a tight 1st half, some
early Mark Treacy scores gave us the slight upper hand at half time. A dominant 3rd quarter by the visitors gave us
a mountain to climb in the last quarter but then Evan Gormley and Matt
Mulholland gained domination in midfield, and all the lads battled until the end
but could not close the gap eventually being edged in a low scoring contest by 12
points to 10. These guys have had a fantastic season and with their rate of
improvement, we can look forward with confidence to having another competitive
U12 squad in 2018. Our best wishes to Eastern Harps in final. The U16 boys are in Championship action on
Monday against Drumcliffe Rosses Point.
The match is in Oxfield and the throw-in is at 7pm. Our minor side had no luck when beaten by St
Farnons in a high scoring Championship round with our hosts posting 2-16 to our
3-09.
The
Belfry Senior Championship opened for St Marys this weekend against Eastern
Harps. In a tight first half Marys drifted into a 3 points lead only to be
pegged back by Harps to the narrowest margin of a single point when Marty
Duffy’s whistle went for half time. Club
captain Gerard O’Kelly Lynch then showed great leadership when scoring 2
excellent goals to pull St Marys clear early in the second half. As expected Eastern Harps did not lie down
and again our margin was tightened to the minimum before 2 late scores from
Luke Nicholson and Rory Guinan sealed the game for St Marys on a scoreline of 2-10
to 0-13 points. Next match is against
Tubbercurry on Saturday and another strong display will be needed to overcome
the men from South Sligo. Well done to Glenn and his squad and best wishes for
the weekend.
