Kennedy Intermediate Championship
Final -- St Johns 1 – 9, St Farnans 1 –
9
After over
an hours football in the Kennedy Intermediate final on Sunday our lads finished
level with St Farnans at 1 – 9 each. This was a game we could have lost but
also could have won and in the end a draw would seem to be a fair result as
neither side deserved to lose. Both teams were very slow to settle and the
first half was full of errors with numerous turnovers and lots of loose passing
and poor shooting resulting in the half time score of 3 points each. St Farnans
got off to the better start in the second half and got into a four point lead
thanks to a lucky goal but our lads woke up and levelled the score with a fine
solo effort from Fiachra Grennan who worked his way in from the left to slot
home St Johns goal which followed a pointed Alan Keane free. From there on the
teams traded point for point and with St Farnans one point ahead a David Rooney
shot from a narrow angle sailed over the bar to level matters and on the
kickout referee John Gilmartin blew his final whistle. The replay will take
place next weekend as the winners have to take on the Leitrim champions on
Sunday Oct 22nd in the Connacht Intermediate quarter final. A big
thanks to the many St Johns supporters who turned out in such large numbers to
cheer on the team and we hope you will come out again next weekend for the
replay which will be at 4.00 on Sunday in the Markievicz Park. So onwards once more into the breech !!
