Under 13 Féile
Having beaten Castleconnor with a dominant
display in the Féile semi-final, our boys took to the pitch in Scarden on
Sunday to take on neighbours St. Mary’s in the final. This was the first time
in many years that Coolera-Strandhill contested the final, with the prize being
to represent the county in the National Féile Festival next year. Playing
against the wind in the first half, the boys were slow to settle, and trailed
by seven points at the interval. The second half saw an early revival, but
unfortunately we couldn’t sustain it, and St. Mary’s were to run out
comfortable winners. Despite the loss the side can be extremely proud of their
efforts and achievements in reaching the final. Congrats to all involved, and
many thanks to everyone who supported the team.

Junior Ladies
Our junior ladies made their exit from the Connacht
Championship when they lost to a very strong Tuam/Cortoon team. Our girls found
it difficult to cope with the experience and speed of their opponents and
trailed heavily at half time. They re-grouped in the second half and their
efforts were rewarded with points from Laura-Ann Laffey, Éilis Callaghan and
Attracta Halloran before Deborah fired home a late goal, just rewards for the
team’s efforts. Congrats to all involved with this group, delivering a county
title in their first season back in adult football.
Under 16
After a lengthy delay, waiting on the outcome of various
hearings, our under 16 boys get back to the playing field tomorrow (Wednesday)
when they play Ballymote/Buninnadden in the Shield Play-Off. Throw-in is in
Scarden at 7.00. Please support them.
Travel
The club would like to extend its best wishes to Jacqui
Mulligan, who sets off on her travels in the next few weeks. Jacqui, a member
of the St. Farnan’s club, this year played with our junior ladies under special
permission. She was an integral part of the squad, whose experience and
enthusiasm played a vital role in the club’s championship success. She has
taken a leave of absence from her teaching duties in the Mercy College, and we
wish her well in her travels.
