Registration
This is a reminder that Coolera-Strandhill GAA
Club member registration is now open online for the 2018 season. Access is through the club
website on www.coolerastrandhill.com and by clicking on the
green link. Team managers will not be responsible for accepting membership fees
this year. Members who have been paying by direct debit may continue to do so
if they wish, or they can opt for on-line registration. If you want to register and cannot remember
your password, please click the “Reset
Password” button and follow
the steps. We ask that you register as soon as possible so as to reduce the
significant burden of managing this process on the club registrar and
committee. Only those registered by March 31st will be allowed to
train and/or play.
Indoor Training
Indoor training continues
this Friday in the Ursuline Hall. The 5-8 year olds train from 6.00-7.00,
followed by the under 10s, (who will be starting their programme) and then
under 12s.
Indoor hurling continues
tomorrow (Wednesday) in St. John’s NS from 7.00-8.00. This is the second last
session before we head outdoors. Hurleys and helmets are provided.
National Hurling League Review
The National Hurling League group stage
came to a conclusion for Sligo last weekend with a good win over Fermanagh. It
was Sligo’s second victory having previously defeated Cavan. However, losses to
Leitrim and Lancashire meant that Sligo miss out on a place in the League
final. Coolera-Strandhill was very well represented on the county panel. Eoin
Comerford captained the team to their two victories, while Luke Comerford,
Frankie O'Flynn and Kieran Prior all made their intercounty debuts in this
year's campaign. Shane Brenan, Conor O'Mahony, Larry Cadden, Gary Cadden, Conor
Gillen, Niall Cadden, Kevin Banks and Mark Comerford are also involved with the
squad.
College Hurling Success
Congratulations to Kieran
Prior, Tristan Gilligan, Alan Scanlon, Alexander Cadden and Shane Brennan who
were part of the Summerhill hurling squad that created its own history with a
6-14 to 1-11 victory over St. Colmans of Claremorris in the Post Primary Senior
hurling competition.
Annual Club Social
Our annual Club Social
takes place this Saturday March 24th in Coolera House. Food will be
served at 9.00pm sharp and will be followed by the presentation of medals to
our Senior Men and Junior Ladies and the announcement of the Club Person of the
Year. This was a very enjoyable night last year and we hope that a large crowd
will attend to honour the achievements of our adult teams. Tickets on sale from
any committee member.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Our representatives braved
the cold on our National Holiday, and gathered on Mailcoach Rd. just after
11.00, to take their place in Sligo’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. Many thanks to
the children and adults who made themselves available, and although smaller in
number than last year, the children were fantastic. The judges obviously
thought so too, as we won the Sports Section, a section that had many clubs
representing many codes. Well done to all concerned.
Dermot Molloy Senior Hurling League
Our senior hurlers had
their first outing in the Dermot Molloy League when they entertained Naomh Eoin
in Ransboro Pk. on St. Patrick’s Day. Our boys were to emerge convincing
winners on a score-line of 5-19 to 2-05, a promising start to the campaign.
Their next fixture is another home tie, this time against Cluainin Iomáint on
Easter Sunday at 12.00.
Football Fixtures
Our senior footballers
begin their season with an away tie against Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the
Kiernan Cup on Saturday 24th at 5.00. Earlier the same day the under
16 boys travel to St. Brendan’s Pk. Castleconnor for their first league game
against their hosts at 11.00, while the junior ladies round off the Spring
League with a trip to Collooney for a 10.00 start against Owenmore Gaels. Best
of luck to all teams.
Cake Sale
The Ladies Football teams
hold their annual Cake Sale and raffle on Easter Sunday. Cakes will be sold
after Dawn Mass on Knocknarea, in Ransboro NS after 11.00 Mass and in
Strandhill after 12.30 Mass. Cakes, buns, breads etc can be left into Ransboro
NS on Easter Saturday from 6.00-7.00 and also from 10.00 on Sunday or to Mary
Redmond in Strandhill.
