Senior Football

Our Burns Cars-sponsored senior team got their first win in the Div 2 League when they travelled out West to Easkey on Sat and overcame the home team by 2-12 to 3-5. Our boys showed much greater commitment and determination on an evening where the strong breeze made playing difficult. Having played with the benefit of the breeze, St Johns led by 1-8 to 0-3 at half time with Cathal Jordan getting the goal when he punched home a David Rooney cross. In the second half our boys retained possession well into the breeze and when Conor Mc Govern saved an 8th min penalty and Fiachra Grennan shot home a goal shortly afterwards things looked good for us, but Easkey fought back scoring three goals including another penalty to leave just 4 points between the sides at the final whistle. St Johns; C McGovern; A Clerkin, D Burke, E Roche; N Hayes(0-1),P McNamara, R Fahy; J Murphy, O Cox; S Stenson, D Rooney(0-7,2F), C Greene; C Jordan(1-1), F Grennan(1-1), C Harrison.
