What a week for Sligo's hurlers and for our county players. Following James Weir's win in the Lory Meagher final he was also named on the Hurling team of the week in corner back. Our under 17 hurlers, Cahan Hallinan, Fionn Connolly, Thomas Cawley and Shane Molloy were part of Sligo's under 17 team which captured the Michael Feery Cup in the Celtic Challenge final against Donegal on Saturday in Tullamore. We congratulate the players and their team mates of Easkey/ St. Farnan's on this great win.
The intermediate team had to satisfied with a draw against St. John's on Sunday in the league. The score was 1-12 each. St. Farnan's had chances to win but a few errors and a saved penalty shot proved costly. St. John's dominated the first half and led by 9points to 5 at the break with David Rooney scoring eight of those. St. Farnan's improved their performance in the second half and when Niall Crean got a goal in the eighteenth minute the sides were level 1-8 to 0-11. St. Farnan's led by three with two points from Ciaran O'Connor and one from Iarla O'Connor. St. John's capitalised on a short kick out and found the net. Finnian Cawley got the last point of the game to equalise. The team was Sean Healy, Caolan Gillen, John Quinn, Conor Gordon, Eamonn Kilgannon, James Weir, Cormac Hallinan, Matthew Lang, Kevin Mc Gee, Finnian Cawley (0-7(3f), Iarla O'Connor (0-2), Gavin Connolly, Declan Cawley, Ciaran O'Connor (0-3), Niall Crean (1-0). Subs used in second half: Shane Neary for Gavin Connolly, Damian Kilgannon for Niall Crean, Jason Mc Guinness for Mattie Lang. Sean Hallinan, Evan Kilrehill, Andrew Mc Munn.
