Under 14 Boys
Coolera/Strandhill Boys u14 brought their
league campaign to an end with a hard-earned draw at Connolly Park against
Owenmore Gaels. Playing thirteen a side on the large Collooney pitch seemed to
unsettle the visitors early on and they produced a lethargic first half
display.
However points from Mark McDaniel, Oisin O Neill
and Kevin Davitt kept the visiting side in touch with their free moving, free
scoring opponents. A well worked goal from Andrew Lynch on the stroke of half
time left the Coolera side just four points down but with a stiff breeze to
face after the interval.
The second period was to see a vastly improved
display with Jamie Walsh coming out of goals having an immediate effect.
Donnacha Beirne was beginning to get a grip at midfield and Mark McDaniel’s
sharp shooting was chipping away at the deficit. Tadgh Doggett, Jamie
Kilfeather, Oran Harte and Alfie Mc Dermott were beginning to get on top and
break up the Owenmore attacks. The advantage then swung back the way of the
home side as they struck with two goals putting them in front by seven points.
A penalty however was to prove crucial to Coolera/Strandhill’s fate. Ross
Doherty slammed the ball to the net despite the best efforts of Killian
Barrett. Oisin O Neill found the net twice more and his final point was enough
to secure a draw on a score line of 2.18 to 5.09. Man of the Match honours this
week are split between Kevin Davitt who covered every blade of the scorched
pitch and Ross Doherty whose work rate never dips below his own high standards.
After a very good league campaign the boys’ reward is a Shield Final this
Friday (20th) in Scarden at 7.00 against Tubbercurry/Cloonacool. All
support will be most welcome.

Under 12 Girls
The under 12 girls travelled to Buninnadden on
Friday to play St. Nathy’s in the second round of the championship. Although
missing ten of the panel, we were still able to field 17 players and there was
plenty of talent to admire. Lulu Mooney revelled in her role on the half
forward line and was top scorer with seven points. Alana Wilson was close
behind with five. Others to feature on the score sheet were Orlaith Beirne
(0-02), Ellen Walsh (0-01), Aoife Cradock (0-01) and Sophie Quinn who came out
of goals for the last quarter to score twice. In an excellent display from the first
whistle to the last the girls won 18-06. There were super individual
performances from Anna McDaniel whose passing and vision were delightful, Lisa
Kilfeather, Aoife Gallagher and Lauren Daltion in defence and Lauren Healy in
attack whose off the ball running kept the home defence busy. Others to impress
were Blaine Heekin, Áine Harte, Susannah Gilligan and Mollie Ronan in the backs
as well as Aoife Hennessy, Grace Bailey and Aoife Cradock in the forwards, the
latter rounding off proceedings with her first score of the year. The girls’
next outing is Friday (20th) when they face a tough assignment
against the League Champions Eoghan Rua.

Senior Football
It was a disappointing weekend of
results for both our senior teams, On Friday evening the seniors played host to
table-toppers Tourlestrane in their final league game, losing out on a score of
2-13 to 1-08. With senior status secured for next year, the focus turns to the
championship when we play St. Molaise Gaels in the first round on August 4th.
Our junior footballers also suffered defeat losing to Drumcliffe-Rosses Pt.
1-18 to 3-07 in their final outing. They play Tubbercurry in the first round of
the championship in August.
