Under 12 Finals
Shield Final
There were mixed fortunes for our under 12 boys
in Scarden last Thursday. Our Div. 1 team were first in action when they played
Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the Shield Final. In what was a very wet evening the pitch was
in excellent condition and there was a great atmosphere. We were slow
to settle with Drumcliffe getting off to a flying start leading 7 scores
to 3 in the 1st quarter. At half time Drumcliffe had an 8 point lead, 12 points
to 4. Great credit must go to our lads who put in a powerful 3rd and 4th
quarter, with some excellent scores from Jack McDaniel, Oran Harte, Aidan
Moran, Darragh Ballintine and Thomas Kinane to draw level 15 points each.
However, Druncliffe scored the winner with the final kick of the game to leave
the score Coolera/Strandhill 0-15 Drumcliffe/Rosses point 0-16. Congratulations
to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on their win. This was an excellent game of football
played in the right spirit by both teams with some excellent skills on show.
Our lads showed great fight and determination to draw level going into injury
time. Despite the result, the boys and their
management can be extremely proud of their efforts and achievements in getting
to the Shield Final.

Cup Success
The younger team played Eastern Harps in the
Div. 3 Cup Final at 8.15. This too was to be a nail-biting affair full of
endeavour and skill. A one-point lead after the first quarter turned into a
three-point deficit by half time and the boys were really up against it facing
a much older opposition. However, like their older counterparts, they showed
great character to get themselves back into the match helped by scores from
Killian O’ Neill and Cathal Gilligan both of whom excelled in the middle of the
field and Jack Keaveney, while James Lynch and Luke Gilgan kept the Harps
attack at bay. Up front the running of Jack Keaveney and Oscar Choo caused
problems. Going in to the final minutes Aidan O’ Loughlin pounced on a loose
ball to chip over putting the Coolera side in front. It proved to be the
winning score as the boys defended the lead to take the honours on a score of
10-09. They have been unbeaten all year, winning ten games in a row and had to
show great grit and determination to grind out this victory. Congratulations to
all the boys and to the management team of Philip and Gary. Team; Stefan

The teams finished off
the evening in Mammy Johnsons with some delicious ice creams and thanks to Neil
Byrne for staying open so late.

Under 12 Girls
It was a tough week for the under 12 girls last
week, losing matches to Eoghan Rua and Eastern Harps. The holiday season meant
that despite having a large panel, reduced numbers meant that a few under 10
girls were called into action. On Monday they faced a very strong Eoghan Rua
team. The girls never got going and suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the
League champions. There were still positives from the encounter though, with
excellent performances from Lauren Healy, Lisa Kilfeather, Aoife Gallagher and
Molly Rooney.
On Friday the girls faced Eastern Harps,
and once again some uinder 10 girls had to help make up the numbers. This was a
much closer affair and the girls were well in contention until the third
quarter when the opposition pulled away. There were scores for Ellen Walsh,
Alana Wilson, Eva White, Aoife Cradock and Susannah Gilligan. Lisa Kilfeather
and Anna McDaniel were super in defence supported by Blaine Heekin and Sarah
McDaniel. Alana and Eva worked hard in midfield and in attack Lauren Healy,
Orlaith Beirne and Tilly Ellwood were industrious. The tie ended 15-09 to
Eastern Harps and the girls have a break until August 10th when they
play St. Farnan’s/St. Pat’s in their last group match.
A special mention to Keelyn Russell,
Sarah McDaniel, Niamh Hennessy and Kate Golden, all under 10, who did so well
when playing up an age last week. Thanks too to Lauren Healy who made a special
effort to come back from Galway for Friday’s match, and to Eva White who played
both games despite being under the weather.
Senior Hurling
Our senior hurlers
continued their good recent run in the championship with a hard fought victory
over Calry St. Joseph’s GAA club at Ransboro Park on Friday evening last. With very little breeze but wet conditions
underfoot Coolera got off to the brighter start and slotted over some early
points. However, a Calry goal mid-way through the half was a setback but the
lads recovered well to go in at half-time leading by 1-08 to 1-05. The pattern
in the second half was somewhat similar with Coolera notching over a number of
points but a second Calry goal set things up for a very tight finish. However,
the lads hung on well to finish off on the right side of a 1-16 to 2-9
scoreline.
Minor Football
The minor boys played Owenmore Gaels in Ransboro
last Wednesday evening. It was a close encounter for the first quarter but the
visitors found their scores easier to come by. The home side’s cause wasn’t
helped when they were reduced to twelve just before half time, and although
they battled on in the second half Owenmore Gaels went on to win 1-15 to 0-07.
Bord na nÓg Quiz
Thanks to all who attended a very enjoyable
Bord na nÓg Table Quiz on July 6th last. Sincere gratitude to our quizmaster
