The Owen B Hunt Cup will travel to Enniscrone this Sunday as Tubbercurry and Tourlestrane do battle in the Belfry Senior Football Championship Final.

On Sunday 14th October the Belfry Senior Football Championship final takes place outside Markievicz Park for the first time since 1990. As Markievicz Park is currently out of action due to a new pitch having been installed Enniscrone/Kilglass GAA Club was chosen as the venue for this year’s Senior showpiece. Ennicrone/Kilglass GAA last hosted a Senior Final in 1987 when St. Mary’s overcame Tubbercurry by a point in Quigabar.

Throw-in to the Senior decider between South Sligo neighbours Tourlestrane and Tubbercurry is at 4pm and is preceded at 1.45pm by the Expert Electrical Sligo Minor A Football Championship Final between Shamrock Gaels and St. Molaise Gaels. Tourlestrane are seeking a three in a row, last completed by St. Mary’s in 1983-85 while Tubbercurry are looking for their 21st title and their first since 2014.

Sligo GAA are delighted and privileged to also mark the Golden Jubilee Commemoration of the 1968 Sligo Minor Football Team at the County Final on Sunday. This Sligo Team won the Connacht Final and reached the All Ireland final for the first time ever and lost to Cork in the Final in Croke Park on 22nd Sept 1968 by the narrowest of margins.

On Saturday 13th October a Mass will be held in Corhownagh Church, Ballisodare at 8.00pm and presentations and refreshments in Sally Gardens, Ballisadare at 9.00pm. Former President of the GAA Peter Quinn will be in attendance in Saturday evening. On Sunday the Players will be introduced to the crowd during the half-time interval in the Senior Final where they will meet special guest, Uachtarán Cumann Lúthchleas Gael John Horan.

Also, on Sunday we celebrate the Jubilee of the 1968 Senior Champions St. Patrick’s who will be honoured during the Minor and Senior Finals. St. Patrick’s beat Easkey 1-8 to 1-2 in Markeivicz Park which was the beginning of a golden era for the Club winning five Senior titles in the following seven years.
