County
Captain
Congratulations to our senior captain Niall Murphy who has
become captain of the Sligo senior footballers. Niall played a pivotal role in
last week’s FBD League encounter with Roscommon and his personal tally of 1-08
kept the Yeats County in the game. The club was well represented with Peter
Laffey lining out at full back and Keelan Cawley at right half back. In
addition, Seán Murphy was also on the panel.
Speaking on the captaincy, Niall said that it was an honour to
play for Sligo but an even bigger honour to be captain, and that hopefully it
will bring success. The goal for the year is that players will improve
individually, bringing on their skill sets and athletic ability, so that by the
end of the year Sligo will be in a better place. There is a lot of new young
players and they are blending in really well and working really hard.
Niall is the first Coolera-Strandhill player to captain Sligo
since Josie Scanlon in 1935, when Sligo won the All-Ireland Junior Title. We
wish him the very best for the year ahead.
