St Patrick’s Day Parade

Well done and a big thank you to all our young members who braved the cold to take part in the St Patricks Day Parade on Sunday. You were a credit to yourselves, your parents and our club. And a big thanks to all the adults who helped out. Check out our club website for photos of the event.

Senior Team News

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gerry Monaghan as the new senior team manager. Gerry is a very experienced manager having successfully taken charge of a number of club sides since retiring from a successful playing career in both football and basketball. He will be assisted by a backroom team that has yet to be finalised. The interim backroom team of Gerry Quinn, John Greene, Charlie Harrison and Shane Stenson will remain in place for the next game. That fixture is in the quarter final of the Benson Cup against St Farnans and it will take place in Stenson Park, Cuilbeg at 4.30pm on Saturday next March 23rd. On the following weekend March 30th /31st the Fureys Coaches Senior Football Division 2 League begins with a home game against St Patricks. We wish Gerry and his team all the best for the coming season

Minor Football

Due to a shortage of players at minor age level the club have amalgamated with our neighbours Owenmore Gaels who find themselves in a similar situation. Hopefully this will provide players at that age group with an opportunity to get a good standard of football and thus improve their skills. In their first game they drew with Tourlestrane on a scoreline of 1 – 8 to 0 – 11 which was a good result considering the short preparation time they had for this game.

Under 16 Football

Our under 16 footballers begin their campaign next weekend when they travel to play Eastern Harps in Fr Brehony Park, Keash on Sunday with a 12.00 throw-in scheduled.

Easter Visitors

Over the Easter weekend, April 12th, 13th and 14th, we welcome the young footballers and their parents from North London Shamrocks GAA club to our club where they will play in tournament games against St Johns and a number of other clubs from Sligo, Leitrim and Mayo at age groups U9, U11, U13 and U14. These games will take place in Stenson Park, Cuilbeg and in Cleveragh. This is a major undertaking for our club but we are confident that our members will come up trumps as usual.

Feile Peil nOg

In 2019 Connacht GAA will be hosting Feile Peil Na nOg over the weekend of 28th, 29th and 30th of June. St Johns will host two of the visiting teams, an U14 Girls team and an U14 Boys team. This means that we will have to organise host families for 48 young players and 8 mentors in our club (2 players per family). If you are able to help us out with this task more information is available on our club website or from club members. The visiting teams could be coming from any part of Ireland, from the UK or the USA.

Club Membership

Membership fees are now due for renewal. Family membership rate is E120, which can be paid by E10 per month by standing order. The rate for single students is E60. The Club Lotto and Camps are separate this year.
