Girls Football
Under 16; For the first time St Johns have
entered a team in the U16 Girls League in order to facilitate the continued
involvement in club football of six of our players. On Wed 10th our
young side took on the girls from Ballisadare who were a stronger, more experienced side.
Ballisadare were the better in the opening half but our girls rallied after the
break showing some stylish football, excellent passing moves and great determination
and spirit but the home side came out on top at the final whistle. Our team
were relying hugely on girls playing up in age group They are coached and
managed by Olivia and Keith Mc Loughlin due to the overlap of players. Well done to our girls who represented Sligo
recently in Ballyhaunis – Katie Cox, Failenn Mc Loughlin, Ella and Amy Boland.
Under 14; Our girls had a fantastic start in
the B League last week with a great away win over Eastern Harps on a cold,
hailstoney night in Gurteen. It was a great team performance with superb
displays by some of our young ladies with even younger girls stepping up and
giving us plenty to cheer about moving forward. Well done to the management of
Keith and Olivia Mc Loughlin on how well they had the team prepared. The team
welcomed three players from the Beltra area who have joined us and have proven
to be a big asset. The final score was Eastern Harps 1 – 4 St Johns 3 – 7. The
next fixture is on Mon 15th against neighbours St Marys In Stenson
Park. Training as usual every Wed evening in Cleveragh from 6.30 to 8.00pm
Under 12; On a beautiful evening in Cuilbeg
our U12 girls had a brilliant start to their league campaign when they defeated
visitors Drumcliffe-Rosses Point by 13 scores to 8.We are so proud of each and
every one of these girls who played lovely football and showed great skill and
spirit to overcome a tough and well-organised Drumcliffe-Rosses Point team.
These girls then followed up this display with an equally brilliant victory
away to St Marys on Fri evening last on a scoreline of 14 scores to 10 and once
again producing a great team performance. As always the girls were given
fantastic support by the parents along the sideline.
Under10/U8 Girls; There is great numbers every Sat
morning at our U8 and U10 training. All of the girls are really developing
their skills well and are enjoying the training. Training as usual every Sat in

fortunes from their narrow loss to St Pats in the last round. The following
weekend sees Owenmore Gaels taking on our lads in Stenson Park.
