Under 14 Girls
The under 14 girls played host to Tourlestrane
on Tuesday evening, 13th. This was their fourth outing in the
league, and although the result didn’t go their way, they can take some
consolation from the fact that it was their best performance to date. The
visitors were first to score, but the Coolera girls soon settled and led at
half tine by 3-05 to 4-01. To the fore were Ellen Walsh, Eva White, Susannah
Gilligan and Lulu Mooney. The second half saw the girls play into the stiff
breeze, this with the physical strength of Tourlestrane, was to have a strong
bearing on the result. The south Sligo side kicked some great points in the
second period and with five more goals to the home side’s 2-03, they ran out
9-08 to 5-09 winners. Despite the defeat, there were some excellent
performances, notably from Áine Harte and Lauren Dalton in the corner back
positions, with support from Mary Kate McPartland and Susannah Gilligan in the
half back line. Eva White and Ellen Walsh ran themselves into the ground for
the cause and both contributed goals. Lulu Mooney kicked some fantastic points,
while substitute Orna Murphy also contributed to the score-line. Ava and Úna
Griffin continue to improve with each game and it was great to see Aoife
Gormley make her return from injury with a steady display. The last league game
is away to Shamrock Gaels next week. Team; Nessa O’ Sullivan, Áine Harte, Aoife
Gormley, Lauren Dalton, Anna McDaniel, Mary-Kate McPartland, Susannah Gilligan,
Eva White, Alana Wilson, Orlaith Beirne, Ellen Walsh, Lulu Mooney, Ava
Griffin,Clodagh Martyn, Úna Griffin, Sub, Orna Murphy.
Ciaran Shannon Memorial 7-A-Side
Last Saturday the club participated in the
Ciaran Shannon memorial 7 a side tournament in Annacurra, Co Wicklow. During
his time in Sligo, Ciaran had a huge impact on our club including playing a
vital role in our Intermediate Football Championship win in 1995. He also
represented the county with distinction. Club officials attended the tournament
draw on Friday night and received a plaque to mark the occasion. Our first game
on Saturday was against Aughrim and a fast paced and even game was decided in
one moment. An innovative rule crediting a double score when the yellow ball
was in play created great excitement. A "double goal" chance for our
lads was saved twice and Aughrim counterattacked and found the net at the other
end - effectively a twelve-point swing. Final score 3-08 to 5-08. Next, we
faced Ballymanus and again the "yellow ball rule" was our undoing. A
double goal score proved a killer blow in an otherwise even game and we fell
away to lose on a scoreline of 3-03 to 9-03. In the final game we faced one of
the host club's sides - the unbeaten Annacurra Slashers. This was probably our
best performance despite being already eliminated. A fortuitous goal near the
end of the first half gave the home side a lead they never relinquished. Our
lads came close on several occasions to claiming a vital goal but couldn't
overcome the deficit. Final score 0-03 to 1-05. Both the host club’s teams made
the final ensuring the Ciaran Shannon Cup remained in their hands. Well done to
everyone who made the trip to Wicklow to honour Ciaran. Team: Daire Macken,
Mark Comerford, Adam Kerrigan, Tristan Gilligan, David Kilrehill, Eoin Macken,
John Kilrehill, Seán Carroll.
Huge thanks to Annacurra GAA for their
hospitality and fantastic organisation of this event.
Nicky Rackard Hurling
Congrats to Gary Cadden, Kevin Banks, Kieran
Prior and Shane Brennan, members of the Sligo Hurling team that defeated Tyrone
yesterday in Round 2. Gary contributed 0-03, while Kieran and Kevin chipped in
with a point each.

U16 Boys
Coolera/Strandhill
boys earned a place in the u16 league semi-final on a date to be confirmed with
victory over Enniscrone at a well-supported game in Ransboro Park on Monday
evening. The locals were
first out of the blocks, scoring with a fine Donnacha Beirne point which was
quickly followed by a Cormac Murphy goal and point. Conor Keane then pointed
and added to his first half tally with a goal following good work by Ross
Doherty. Donnacha Beirne was on the mark again, despite losing possession he
managed to scramble the ball to the net, and after a powerfull Liam Gilligan
run, Mark Mc Daniel pointed to leave the scoreline 3-04 to 2-06 in favour of
the home side as half time approached.
Cormac Murphy got the second half scoring under way with an
early second half point and the ever lively Conor Keane then goaled having
intercepted a wayward Enniscrone kickout. Liam Gilligan helped himself to a
goal and a point and Cormac Correira slotted over a neat point before being substituted
after shipping a heavy tackle. Ross Doherty, who was immense throughout, found
the net after clever approach work and Andrew Lynch came off the bench to net
another. A few more late points left the final score Coolera/Strandhill 7-11 Enniscrone
3-10. Others to impress were Cathal Morahan in goal, Ben Cawley tigerish as
ever at the back, Ryan Young with a top-class marshalling job on his opponent
and Jakob Krajewski solid as ever in the corner. Man of the Match honours this
week were divided with Rory Kinane and Liam Gilligan both giving exemplary performances.
An entertaining game played in a good spirit was somewhat marred by the
surprising dismissal of two Enniscrone and one Coolera player. Team: C. Morahan, J, Krajewski, J. Walshe, R. Young, B.
Cawley, R .Doherty(1-01), D. Beirne(1-02), C. Correira, R. Kinane, L. Gilligan(1-01),

Under-Age Hurling
Thirty
two Coolera/Strandhill boys and girls took part in the GoGames under 8 and u 10
hurling blitz on Monday in ideal conditions at Scarden. The u10's played
Calry/St Joseph's, Naomh Eoin, Benbulben Gaels and St Molaise Gaels displaying
some fine skills picked up from our Tipperary visitors. The U8's played St
Molaise Gaels in their blitz. With only one outdoor session behind them the two
teams gave a great account of themselves. For many these were their first
outdoor matches, and the lovely skills shown in all matches augurs well for the
future of Coolera/Strandhill hurling. The U13 Tain League team were given a
walk over by Westport. Our u14's make the long trip to Castleconnor on Thursday
next.
Coolera/Strandhill had eight boys on the Sligo U15
Development squad who played Leitrim on Saturday last in Connacht Centre of
Excellence. Rory Kinane, Conor Finan, Oisin Whelan, Thomas Kinane, Tadgh
Dogget, Hubert Healy, Jack Feeney and Shane O'Loughlin represented the club
with distinction. Unfortunately, Sligo lost by three points. Training continues
in Scarden on Friday nights. Martin Feeney will be collecting the remaining
Smartabase App forms from parents at training
Junior Ladies
The Junior Ladies began their championship
campaign away to Calry/St. Joseph’s on Sunday. In a very close, entertaining
affair, the girls held in the final minutes to clinch victory 3-10 to 2-10.
Trailing after ten minutes by 1-00 to 0-01, the point coming from half back Cliodhna O’ Sullivan. a Ruth Goodwin goal sparked the girls into
life. Further points from Lauren McGarry, Aislinn Doggett, Laura Ann Laffey and
Attracta Halloran (0-02) put our girls back in contention and a second goal
from Ruth saw us lead at half-time 2-06 to 1-06. The home side began the second
half strongly, and two quick points left the minimum between the sides. The
girls responded with another score from Laura Ann. Calry continued to put
pressure on the defence, but Grace Molloy was very commanding at full-back and
repelled many home attacks. An Attracta Halloran goal and three points restored
the three point lead, going into the final few minutes. The defence held firm
for the most part, but it took an outstanding save from goalkeeper Beibhinn
Harte to ensure the win. This was a great team performance, with many spells of
flowing attacking football, but it also took a huge effort from the defence to
lay the foundation for the win. Caoimhe O’ Sullivan marshalled affairs from
centre back and her breaks forward, as well as those of Cliodhna O’ Sullivan
set up many attacks. Grace Molloy was excellent at full back, while Nadine
Deering was consistent throughout. The
attack was led superbly by Attracta Halloran, she would eventually finish up
with 1-05 to her name. She had great support, particularly from Aislinn Doggett
and Lauren McGarry. Next Sunday the girls face Molaise Gaels in Round Two.
Team: Beibhinn Harte, Eimear Callaghan (Gráinne Redmond), Grace Molloy, Nadine
Deering, Amy Hampson, Caoimhe O’ Sullivan, Cliodhna O’ Sullivan (0-01), Ruth
Goodwin (2-00), Laura Ann Laffey (0-02), Sarah McCormack, Shona Dalton, Aislinn
Doggett (0-01), Lauren McGarry (0-01)(Ellen Given), Attracta Halloran (1-05),
Ellen Prior (Éilis Burke). Subs; Keri Mitchell, Amy Deering.
