In sun drenched McHale Park on Wednesday evening it was unfortunately obvious early on this was going to be a long evening. Barry Gorman equalised in the 4th minute but that was as good as it got with up by 4 when Alan Reilly had sent over a free. Despite an early black card for Mayo it never affected their style of play and with Evan O'Brien lording it at midfield the quality of ball into the full forward line of Orme and Conroy meant scores were being got at will.
At halftime Mayo lead 0-12 v 0-2 with an Alan Reilly penalty being well saved by the Mayo keeper when there was 6 points between the sides.

A number of changes were made at halftime but this did not stem the flow of scores for Mayo. We went more direct and Barry Gorman had some success in that regard getting a few more points. A storming run by Conan Marren saw his shot for point fall short, Gavin Gorman rose highest and caught, was fouled as he went to shoot for goal but Seán Carroll finished the loose ball to the net just as the ref was blowing for the penalty. However Mayo responded 6 minutes later with their own goal from their corner back but it was quiet at that time as some of the crowd had left early.

Mayo go on to the Connacht final where they play Galway in the final.
