Bunninadden have qualified for the semi finals of this year’s intermediate championship following their comprehensive victory over Castleconnor in Tourlestrane last Sunday.

With ten different scorers on the board, youngster Luke Marren hit 0-6 for his side, showing some expert score taking off both feet.

Bunninadden were on a rampage in the first ten minutes, hitting 1-5 without reply. Adrian Frain got the ball rolling in the first minute, with the game’s first goal coming after six minutes. Michael Gormley got on the end of a nice move before slotting to Liam Donegan’s bottom right hand corner. Gormley has now hit three of Bunninadden’s six championship goals.

Oisin Flynn hit 0-4 throughout and was integral to Castleconnor’s first half scoring – as talisman Sean Carrabine had his hands full in the middle of the field with the in form Frain.

With an eight point lead at half time, Willie Gormley’s side carried great momentum heading into the second period.

However, Castleconnor did show plenty of fight with some well taken scores early in the second half. The pick of the bunch came from midfielder Ciaran Kilcullen whose effort off the outside of the right boot split the posts beautifully at the scoreboard end. Castleconnor were in the midst of their purple patch – outscoring Bunninadden 0-5 to 0-2 in the first ten minutes of the second half.

But alas, for Nigel Reape’s side, they would not register another score until added time as Bunninadden displayed a twenty minute period of dominance and expert shooting. Wing back Conor Murray came up to hit three points with two off his weaker left side, as Oisin Gorman, Adrian Frain, Barry Cafferky and Marren also added to their tallies.

Ronan Doherty impressed throughout also, with tremendous work rate from wing forward.

Unfortunately for Castleconnor, Carrabine suffered a head injury mid way through the second half which left him on the sideline for a few minutes, in which time Bunninadden finished off their opponents.

In the end, it was Carraibine himself who had the last say – running in on goal, the hand pass from Quinn skipped away from him, as the captain struck a left footed half volley to the roof of the net.

An eleven point win for Bunninadden who will be interested to see their opponents from next weekend’s group 1 round 4 fixtures. They join Easkey from this group in going through to the knockout stage.

For Castleconnor, they look to avoid the relegation zone when they play their good old friends Enniscrone/ Kilglass in Tourlestrane next Sunday. The winner will secure third spot and intermediate football for next season, while the defeated will head for a relegation semi final against bottom side in group 1, Ballymote.
