Club Sligo

Sligo GAA 2020 & Beyond

As you will know by now the first step in our strategy to develop Gaelic games in Sligo commenced some 6 years ago when we asked you our supporters to put your financial support behind our proposed Centre of Excellence.

That project thanks to your backing and support from various bodies such as Croke Park, Connacht Council and the Government through their Sports Capital Grant scheme all contributed to what is now considered one of the top facilities of this nature in Ireland.

Over the past few years we have seen the usage of this facility maximised to the full catering for 1200 events in 2019 which included all our County teams our development squads not to mention Clubs and Schools across the county.

So in a nutshell – a €3m investment well made and a facility to be proud of.

However, we now have to address the bigger issue and that is to start developing players and teams to deliver at least Provincial titles – an area where we have not had a great track record particularly at underage level.

To address this deficit and to compliment our existing Coaching team, we have appointed a GPO (Games Promotion Officer) in each of our 4 Divisions and have complimented that with the appointment of a Strength & Conditioning coach in Louise Keane all aimed at improving our players to enable them compete at the highest level.

In addition to our Coaching team, we have strong voluntary support on the ground for all our Development squads and we have already seen success at Under 16 level winning the Manning Cup for the past two years. While our Under 17 team were very unlucky not to make a Connacht Final, their displays throughout the year points to a bright future.

Our Hurlers have also made headlines winning back to back All Ireland titles through the Lory Meagher Cup in 2018 and the Nicky Rackard Cup in 2019. Again they will point to our excellent facilities as part of that success.

So as we embark on Club Sligo for another 3 years, we call on your support to help us achieve this success.

If you have been a supporter of Club Sligo in the past we thank you most sincerely for that support and if this is your first time to support Club Sligo, we thank you for helping us to try and deliver a brighter future for the Yeats County.
