"Ask not what your County can do for you but what can you do for your County"
Sligo GAA embarked on their new Centre of Excellence five years ago with a view to providing the best training facilities for their Clubs,
their Development squads and their County teams.
The result has been the creation of €3m complex at Scarden which is now fully operational and fulfilling all the initial aspirations set out by
the County Board. The Centre of Excellence provides facilities that rival many counties
throughout the country.
While we have received generous financial support from Croke Park, Connacht Council and the Government through the Sports Capital Grants Fund,
we must acknowledge the tremendous support we have received from our 700 Club Sligo members over the past 5 years.
Your support has enabled us to concentrate on delivering this Legacy project and provide top class facilities for our Clubs and all our Teams.
In 2016, we have seen the playing facilities cater for over 500 matches and training sessions while our Gym and meeting facilities have been
utilised on over 200 occasions. Within this cohort we have facilitated our Clubs, County Football and Hurling teams, Development squads,
Secondary and National Schools and Sligo Ladies GAA.
The final phase of the Centre of Excellence is now underway with the creation of a new
floodlit Sand based training area specifically aimed at saving the main playing pitches during the Winter/Spring and thereby saving on
maintenance costs. We are also completing our Car Parking area with capacity for 300 Cars and Coach parking facilities. We expect both of
these to be completed by Spring 2017 within a Budget of €300,000. We are calling on you for your support to fund this Final phase of our
Project by renewing your Membership in our New Club Sligo Scheme or by becoming a new Member. Your support will guarantee the completion of our
Project and will ensure that you are associated with the development by having your name acknowledged on a permanent plaque at the Centre of
Excellence. The Centre will be officially opened by the President of the GAA Aogán Ó Fearghaíl in Spring 2017. Thank you most sincerely for your
support as we continue to strive to deliver the success that we all aspire to on the playing field while also being proud to be associated with
one of the finest Centres of Excellence in Ireland.
