Big win for Enniscrone/Kilglass

Enniscrone/Kilglass 4-12 Owenmore Gaels 0-9

Enniscrone/Kilglass had a resounding 15-point win over Owenmore Gaels at Quigabar last Saturday evening in Division Two of the Fureys Coaches Senior League.

The home side, who now have three wins to their name, put in a good all-round performance, with the lively Brian Coleman scorer-in-chief including a first half hat-trick.

Owenmore Gaels’ will be disappointed that they failed to back up their fine win over Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in the previous round, but they struggled here throughout.

The opening half was key to the home side’s success. Playing into the wind, they scored three goals to lead by six points at the break, 3-1 to 0-4.

Following a pointed free in the 10th minute, three goals before the break helped the west Sligo men to a deserved advantage.

Brian Coleman finished all three opportunities well, and Enniscrone/Kilglass carved open the Owenmore Gaels defence with some slick attacking play.

Owenmore Gaels opened the scoring with two points, but only managed a total of 0-4 in the first half despite having played with the wind.

After the resumption Enniscrone/Kilglass continued in the same vein with the wind at their backs. A Tom Mahon goal early in the half ended the game as a contest, and from there Enniscrone/Kilglass tagged on a number of points to run out convincing winners.

Owenmore Gaels registered five second half points, the majority of which were from Glen McCormack frees, but they didn’t come close to bridging the large gap.
