Sligo GAA announced their 2018
Sponsors at a Press Night in the Sligo Southern Hotel last week where they were
joined by representatives from many of their Sponsors and members of the County
Executive.
Peter Greene opened proceedings
by introducing Joe Taaffe County Board Chairman who addressed those in
attendance. Joe opened by welcoming all the Sponsors and thanking them for
their ongoing support to the County and wished them all well in their own
businesses in the coming year.
Joe went on to thank all the
various team mentors for their work during the year and thanked Peter Greene, County
Board Treasurer in particular for his work over the past number of years in
garnering and developing new Sponsors for the County Board.
Peter Greene then went on to
introduce each of the Sponsors and outlined the various Sponsorships they
supported.
Peter thanked ABBVIE for their ongoing support for
the County Senior, Under 20 and Junior teams now in their 3rd year
sponsoring Sligo.He paid a particular word of thanks to Joe Kumor, Site Manager
of the Ballytivnan site who was very supportive of this sponsorship since its
inception.
Peter went on to thank all in IT Sligo for their ongoing support as
an Associate sponsor to all our County teams. Again, he paid particular thanks
to current President Brendan McCormack and Niall McEvoy, Head of Innovation.
He then referred to the sterling
support provided to our Under 16 and 17 (Minor) teams through Richard Kennedy
and Devenish Nutrition. Devenish who
are also the Meath Senior football team sponsors have been supporting Sligo
Minor teams for the past number of years.
The next Sponsor was Ronan
Watters of Shoot the Crows and Peter
wished him and the team well for their forthcoming Lory Meagher All Ireland Final.
Peter hoped that at least one Sligo team would enjoy All Ireland glory for
their Sponsor.
AURIVO
have been one of Sligo’s Sponsors for a number of years and Peter commented on
how their support assisted the County Board in delivering at County level.
And finally, from a team
perspective Peter acknowledged the valued support provided by EJ Menswear for the County Development
squads. Eamon Cunningham and his team are always willing and supportive in the
development of our young stars of the future.
Peter then moved on to
Competition Sponsors and started by thanking the County’s longest Sponsors –
the Quinn family who sponsor The
Belfry Senior Football Championship, the Kennedy’s Intermediate football
Championship and the Lola Montez Junior football Championships.
Another local business family
were next in line as Furey’s Coaches
were acknowledged for their ongoing support for all the Senior Football
Leagues.Peter also commented that the Furey name is now synonymous with
providing transport for the Senior football team also.
Keeping to the local business
theme, Peter thanked Expert Electrical Sligo
for their ongoing support of all the Underage competitions in the County.
A new departure this year was the
Sponsorship of a number of the Coaching activities held across the county.
Peter pointed to the Annual
Jersey Day where almost 3000 children participated, and this event was
sponsored for the first time by Seamus Preston and his team at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Sligo.
The 9 Easter Coaching Camps held
across the county were also sponsored for the first time by Kevin McGlynn and
his team at The Sligo Southern Hotel.
Kevin also sponsored a Gilet jacket for each of the Club Coaching Officers in
the county in recognition of their hard work with each of the Clubs.
Peter concluded by thanking a
number of support sponsors namely Niall and Karen Gallogly of Gallogly Catering, Ross Palmer of Fastcom for their Telecommunications
support and finally VW Connolly Motors for sponsoring the
Senior football Team Kit Van.
