The playing season is commencing and we had 2 strong wins over last weekend when the Kiernan Cup side won their quarterfinal impressively over Castleconnor, scoring 4-20 in the process.   This was followed on Sunday by an equally impressive performance from the U16’s who travelled to Geevagh and beat their hosts by 6-05 to 1-06.   These lads are out again next Monday when they welcome Tubbercurry to Kent Park (throw-in at 6.30pm).   The Senior team switches attention to the league, with a home tie against Molaise Gaels this Sunday commencing at 12.

The Senior Championship draw threw up a serious challenge for St Marys when their opposition in the Group stages were drawn as Tubbercurry, Tourlestrane, Molaise Gaels and Shamrock Gaels.   This promises to be a very competitive group when teams will have to be at their best from the start.   On other county matters, good to see Pat and John Clifford sharing top prize in the February County draw.

A gallant Ursuline College were unable to add to their Connaught title when meeting Bunclody of Wexford in the All-Ireland semi final last Saturday.   A great campaign nonetheless and congratulations to players and their team management on a tremendous achievement.   Good luck this week to Summerhill in their Connaught semi-final against Claregalway College.

Sligo Senior men finished their league campaign with a morale boosting performance against Offaly which gives everyone plenty to work on for the upcoming Championship.   While losing a tight game by 1 point, the scoreline of 1-10 to 1-11 showed a much improved situation and well done to Gerard O’Kelly Lynch on contributing 1-02 to the Sligo tally.   The County Ladies had a much better outcome, pushing their promotion credentials with an impressive 3-16 to 1-19 win against Offaly.   Good luck to all on their final match in 2 weeks against Kildare.
