Castleconnor club notes 10 July 2023
Adult Leagues
On Friday night last Castleconnor welcomed Drumcliffe Rosses Point to St Brendan's Park. The weather dried up from the morning however there was a gale force breeze blowing from Corballa school towards Enniscrone. A good crowd turned out for this game. Castleconnor started the brightest with Sean Carrabine opening the scoring from a free before doubling our lead shorty after. In this period our defenders were playing well frustrating Drumcliffe and turning them over. One of these turnovers fell to Stephen Rogan who zipped a ball into Sean Carrabine who won it at the 65. Darragh Flynn made a burst off his shoulder and was fed by Sean. Darragh was one on one with the keeper but with about 45 meters to goal. He drove at the goal backed up by the greyhound like Sean. Darragh slipped the ball to Sean who rifled to the empty net. Castleconnor would go in at half time 1-2 to no score up. Castleconnor again started the second half the better with Eoin Kent clipping a score followed by a couple of Carrabine frees. Carrabine kicked another from play following a bullet of a pass from Kent. Stephen Rogan got in on the scoring with a back door cut following an inch perfect pass from Darragh Flynn. By this point we were 1-8 to 2 points up but would inexplicably not score again for the rest of the half with 15 minutes remaining. Drumcliffe would reel off 7 points to see the gap reduced to 2 points before Castleconnor held the ball for 90 seconds to see out the game. Well done to the lads on a good win. The team on duty was Anthony Kilcullen, Padraig Gavin, Ronan Wilson, Keith Earlis, Patrick Cooney, Cian Flynn, Paul Flynn, Eoin Kent (0-1), Oisin Flynn, Michael Sheridan, Sean Carrabine (1-6 4F), Darragh Flynn, Eoghan Durkan, Stephen Rogan (0-1), Matthew Langan, Ciaran Kilcullen.
The team take on Owenmore Gaels on Friday evening in Colooney. The game throws in at 7:45pm. Be great to have good support for the lads and hopefully they can back up the previous weeks result away from home.
On Saturday, the Division 4 side took on Ballymote in a rescheduled fixture. The game was dubbed the thunderstorm derby following its cancellation due to thunderstorms a couple of weeks ago. On this occasion the weather stayed pleasant. Ballymote fielded an experienced team and found scores easier to come by. Our lad's battled hard and had plenty of chances however several good opportunities were spurned. The final score was 2-25 to 3-7 with James Tully scoring two goals. The team on duty was Liam Donegan, Darragh Gilmartin, Conor Gallagher, Barry Kilcullen, Daniel Ruane, Darragh Stenson, Neil Rafter, Fergal Boland, Jason Earlis, Niall Judge, James Tully, Brendan Howley, Matt Geraghty, Cathal Feeney, Kevin Howley, Frank Barrett, Kenneth Healy.
U17 B Championship
On Monday evening our u17 squad travelled to Nace O'Dowd park to take on Coolaney/Mullinabreena. In a close game the lads won out on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-9.
