The death has taken place of former Derroon, Ballymote Round Towers and Sligo footballer, Patrick James Scanlon.

Patrick played minor for Sligo in the 1930s and won a county junior title with Derroon in 1945. In 1947 Derroon and Emlyghad amalgamated for the senior championship as Ballymote Round Towers where Patrick alongside his brother Willie and Michael (who both played county minor) won the county senior title in 1948 in the final v Skreen 2-1 v 1-1. 
Patrick was a member of a number of the Sligo squadsin the 1940s and was part of the squad when Kerry played Sligo in the Showgrounds. Patrick emigrated in 1952 but his love for Gaelic football was immense throughout his long life

Patricks memorial mass will take place tomorrow in the UK
