O'Connor Park Tullamore was to be our last stop in the senior intercounty football season when Offaly cast aside our challenge on a very wet day. The pitch was in immaculate condition with the ball flying off the solid ground.

Offaly tore into us from the start and were strong in the tackle which with the ball like a wet bar of soap lead to a lot of attacks breaking down. With that said it was felt that in the build up to the first goal Sligo should have had two frees whilst for the second a clear pick up off the ground was treated unusually by the referee.

Niall McNamee was in flying form and was a lot fitter than in the league encounter. Sligo got themselves back into the game and it was felt that a foul on Pat Hughes which was put over may have also resulted in a black card. Paddy O'Connor after an excellent move was through on goal but Dunican the Offaly keeper (who scored 3 points from placed balls) made an excellent save with his foot. This was followed by an excellent block down by the corner back. We finished the half strongly with 2 points in injury time but trailed 2-8 v 0-9. Our scores came from Niall Murphy, Paddy O'Connor, Sean Carrabine and Pat Hughes.

The start of the second half saw us kick 3 wides on the trot before Offaly got over the halfway line but when they did they put the game to bed with a palmed goal from Alan McNamee. Though Sligo tried and scored some good points from around the park the game was over before the final whistle with David Quinn seeing red near the end.

Thanks to the players, management and support team for all their efforts throughout the year. Thanks to all the supporters who came out to games whether in Colloney or beyond.
