Site Directors from AbbVie’s two sites in Sligo presented 460 AbbVie branded footballs to clubs across Sligo at a donation event earlier this week. They joined AbbVie colleagues, senior squad players, members of the Sligo County Board and players from 23 underage teams across the county at the special presentation at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence in Scarden. It is anticipated that the donation will help benefit more than 2,500 young players participating at grassroots level across Sligo.
Supporting grassroots
AbbVie agreed an initial three-year sponsorship deal with the Sligo county board in 2015, which was extended in January of this year. It sees the AbbVie logo appear on all Senior, U-20 and Junior football team jerseys. This generous donation of equipment to underage teams at clubs across Sligo highlights AbbVie’s ongoing support of the game – both at senior and grassroots level.
AbbVie continues to be the only multinational pharmaceutical company in Ireland to sponsor an inter-county GAA team and these displays of support for our local communities help to build our reputation and are an expression of the company’s corporate responsibility objectives in action.

Commenting on the donation and the ongoing support of Sligo GAA Columba McGarvey, Site Director AbbVie Ballytivnan, said: “AbbVie’s support of Sligo GAA has been an incredibly positive experience for the company. Seeing the AbbVie logo on the front of the jersey instils employees with a great sense of pride. I hope that this donation helps to further nurture the sport across Sligo and build our reputation in the process.”
