Bunninadden came out on top in the local derby game against neighbours Ballymote in Keash with a 6 point win.  

In fairness to Ballymote the score line does not reflect the game as it was a closer encounter with Bunninadden going in to the half time break a point up with 08 points to 07. 

Bunninadden came out of the blocks first and raced into a 04 v 02 points to lead with some excellent frees by Kenneth Kerins who scored 5 points in the game. Niall Colsh received a black card for a body check on a Bunninadden attacker which under the new rules resulted him going into the sin bin for 10 minutes. 

Stephen Ross having an excellent first half for Ballymote scored 4 points , with two of them from placed balls. Adrian Frain scored the point of the game in front of the dressing rooms to put the Bunnies 05 v 0-2 up. 

Additional points from the ever reliable Kenneth Kerins from Bunninadden and Dermot McTiernan of Ballymote left the scoreline of 7 points to 6 in favour of Bunninadden. 

Before the first half whistle Danny Clarke in goals for Ballymote pulled off a magnificent save from Cian Brett, from which Ballymote went up the field to level the game with another free from Dermot McTiernan. Barry Caffery scored an excellent point to put Bunninadden back in front by the minimum just before the half time whistle. 

Ballymote started the second half strongly and with points from Stephen Ross and Dermot McTiernan took the lead for the first time in the game. A mistake by the Ballymote keeper allowed former county minor Oisin Gorman on his championship debut to punch the ball into the back of the net. 

Another mistake by the Ballymote defence allowed midfielder Matthew Clavin run through for a well taken goal. Further points from Oisin Gorman and the towering Clavin stretched Bunninadden’s lead to 6 points. Dermot McTiernan scored another free with Cian Brett scoring a great score off his left for Bunninadden. 

In injury time Malachy Healy received a straight red for a high tackle on Brett. 

Bunninadden will be delighted to get their campaign of to a winning start but will have to improve for further games ahead. A high wide count and players over carrying will give Bunninadden manager John O Flatherty some work to be done on the training pitch next week.  

Ballymote have a bye next weekend and will have Curry in their next game. Manager Enda Kelly will have regroup his players exciting games ahead that have still all to play for.
