Geevagh got their challenge to return to senior championship
back on track with a clearcut victory over Ballymote in Keash on Saturday
evening.
The east county side, who won the last pre pandemic running
of this championship but who were relegated from senior ranks last year, took command
of this game from early on and led from start to finish.
They were three points up within three minutes and while
both sides exchanged scores in bursts Geevagh went into the half time break
with that three-point gap intact, 0-8 to 0-5.
Ballymote had their best spell in the early stage of the second
half and with a goal and a point to Geevagh’s two point they got the margin
back to a point in the 36th minute.
Geevagh however responded quickly with a goal and point of their
own to stretch the margin out again and they finished out the last quarter of
the game with a further 1-2 to Ballymote’s single point to finish nine points ahead,
2-13 to 1-7.
