Easkey put in a dominant performance as they saw off Bunninadden in the
2nd round of the Intermediate football championship played on a
sunny Sunday evening in Enniscrone.
It was Bunninadden that took an early lead from a free from Luke Marren,
however Easkey quickly replied through an Andrew Kilcullen point.
Kevin Duffy
rattled the net soon after for Easkey however the goal was disallowed as the
final pass was deemed a throw ball. Another point for Andrew Kilcullen on 14
minutes gave Easkey the lead, which they would not relinquish for the remainder
of the game.
Points from Easkey trio Jack Scott, Mikey Gordon and Rossa Sloyan
increased the lead out to 4 points, however they would have been disappointed
not to be further ahead as the sea siders were also guilty of some wayward
shooting.
Kevin Duffy was to rattle the net again on 20mins, this time his goal
was to stand as after from lovely link up play with the McHugh brothers,
Duffy’s powerful low drive beat Mike Fogarty in the Bunninadden goal.
Bunninadden
were quick to reply with a well taken point from Barry Cafferky, before Joe
McHugh replied in kind with a point for the Sea Blues.
The team continued to
trade points as a Luke Marren mark on 25 mins reduced the deficit before a
Rossa Sloyan free from out on the sideline on the stroke of half time, left the
Sea Blues with a 7 point lead at the break.
An Oisin Gorman free after Michael Gormley was fouled at the start of
the 2nd half got Bunninadden off to a strong start but points from
Joe McHugh, Andrew Kilcullen and the hard working Mikey Gordon increased the
lead out further and it could have been more had Eoghan Rua McGowan not been
denied by an outstanding save from Bunninadden keeper Mike Fogarty.
A free from
Luke Marren on 43 mins after Michael Gormley was again fouled brought the
deficit back to 8 before a point from Rossa Sloyan increased the lead again.
The teams continued to trade points with another point for Luke Marren, this
time from play was quickly followed by a Kevin Duffy fisted point.
Easkey
substitute Brendan McGrath got his name on the scoresheet shortly after as he
pointed after a great run from Eoghan Rua McGowan.
Bunninadden kept working
hard as they tried to find a way back into the game but were struggling to
create a clear goal scoring opportunity and an Oisin Gorman blasted effort from
distance was as close as they got to troubling Easkey goalkeeper Daniel
Rolston.
Easkey on the other hand were finding chances easier to come by and
another goal for Kevin Duffy on 55 mins ended this game as a contest. Another
fine point for Easkey veteran Brendan McGrath from out near the sideline was
followed by a Ronan Doherty free for Bunninadden before the final whistle
sounded, leaving the final score 2-14 to 0-08.
The win puts Easkey in a
commanding position at the top of Group with 2 wins from 2 games, meanwhile
Bunninadden will know they have very little room for error as they take on
Enniscrone/Kilglass in 2 weeks time.
