While there was obvious disappointment at the outcome of last Friday's All-Ireland Colleges football final at Croke Park, there is much pride too over the achievements of the Summerhill College team in reaching the national decider. We have no doubt that the team will learn from the experience - and they can hold their heads high at the end of memorable championship journey. There was huge club support in Dublin from DRP. Well done all who made the trip and lent their support to the team.
A big thank-you to all our club members and volunteers who took part in the various St Patrick's Day club celebrations last Friday. We had a big turnout for the Parade in Sligo town - and our annual Hot Pot Event provided welcome refreshment in Harry's Bistro and Bar in Rosses Point afterwards Sincere thanks to Fenton Ewing and the staff at Harry's for their hospitality. Well done to our hardworking team of Kitchen chefs, led by Peader Power, who served up the delicious grub. Take a bow all our club members who provided a hot pot for the event.
Well played Cian Lally who helped Sligo move a step closer to promotion from Division 4 last Saturday with a well-deserved victory in Carlow. The win sets up a mouth-watering head-to-head clash with Leitrim this Sunday in Carrick-on-Shannon at 1pm which will decide the promotion picture.
Hard luck to our club players on the Sligo LGFA team who lost out to Kildare last Sunday in Quigabar.
Well done to Drumcliffe Handball Club's Oran McNulty on reaching the All-Ireland Juvenile Handball semi-finals last Saturday. Oran lost out in the last four to Anthony Clifford of Kilkenny but did exceptionally well to reach this stage of a national competition.
The club football season begins this Sunday for our two boys under-13 football teams against Shamrock Gaels at Oxfield. Our Division 1 team play at 11am with the Division 3 game at 12:30pm.
